Tropical Storm Franklin expected to become hurricane.

Tropical Storm Franklin is being closely monitored by the National Hurricane Center as it gears up to transform into a hurricane.

 ORLANDO, Fla. —

The latest update from the NHC on Friday positioned Franklin approximately 215 miles to the east-northeast of Grand Turk Island, boasting wind speeds of up to 50 mph. Presently, the storm is making a gradual east-northeastward movement at a pace of 5 mph.

Anticipating the storm's trajectory, the NHC stated, "A decisive northward shift coupled with an accelerated forward speed is anticipated for tonight and Saturday. This movement will persist, veering towards north or north-northwest over the expanse of the western Atlantic, sustaining through early next week." The center added, "We predict a gradual amplification in potency by tomorrow. As the weekend progresses, it's highly likely that Franklin will advance into hurricane status."
